It's been a cabin fever week! The weather has been horrid and doesn't look like it's going to get much better until the latter part of the coming week.
Bill hasn't been out of the house since a week ago Friday and I've only been out a couple of times. Sunday we woke up to cold and rain so decided not to go to church. By noon it was starting a sleet/freezing rain/rain mix and that continued until the evening. Ryan, Amanda and the kids were here for awhile. I made a big pot of vegetable beef soup and baked some crusty French baguettes to go with it. We were iced in Monday with all the schools closed. The freezing rain started again Tuesday afternoon and that one was a doozy with tree limbs down and loss of power all over. I had checked the generator Sunday afternoon to make sure it would start and then got the book out Tuesday to read the instructions on switching the power over if we did lose power. Luckily we never did lose it. Emily picked the girls up early from school and managed to get home and get a pot of soup made before the power went out at their house. She kept the girls home from school Wednesday because they still didn't have power until about 2 in the afternoon.
I finally got the car mostly cleaned off Thursday and made a Walmart run for a few supplies. The roads weren't bad but the temps were terrible! It didn't get above 20 which is extremely cold for us. We didn't go anywhere yesterday and it started snowing about 9 last night and is still spitting a little. We probably have 1-2 inches. Everything is so quiet outside and pretty to look at.
I don't know how many pots of coffee we have gone through and we've almost emptied 1 of the firewood bins, but the fires have been wonderful! The house has been cold with the temps so cold so we've kept a fire going. Usually we have them at night but yesterday we had one all day.
We finally have a date for Bill's next appointment. We only have to be there 2 days as of right now but the first day is a doozy! We start with labs at 7:30 and finally see Dr. Hosenpud at 3! The 2nd day is the heart cath and echo and that's it!
We're still fighting our colds but I think we're getting a little better finally. I've had a sore inside my nose that covers an entire side (I know you really wanted to know that) and finally Monday had a fever blister appear. So maybe it is finally working out. Bill's is still a drippy nose but he feels good.
We both have eye appointments Wednesday. Hopefully the weather will have eased up. We're supposed to get more snow Monday so we'll just have to see. It won't be any trouble to cancel them and they will certainly understand.
All for this week. We're probably going to just stay hunkered down and ride it out. If you've gotten all the ice and snow, stay safe and warm. If you're already somewhere warm enjoy it, it could be worse! This is across the street from us. All that's left of the tree is the trunk, but the branch missed everything!
