It's been an eventful and informative day so far! Bill ate an entire box of Cheerios for breakfast! That was the most food he had eaten for several days. He also drank his Glucerna and finished his milk and drank some coffee. They did decided to do some bolus feeds through his peg tube, depending on how much he eats at any given time.

He's still on really high flow oxygen and when he moves his sats keep dropping. But, as long as he's relatively quiet his sats stay in the mid to upper 90s. He's still doing a lot of coughing and the main problem with it now is he refuses to use the suction himself, or let someone else suction for him. So, he just swallows it, or lets it drop back into his lungs.

In talking to the lung dr. on call for our lung group, Dr. Wozniak, he said that he IS NOT having a COPD flare up, and the COPD has not worsened. He said that he is moving air well. Lizzy also said after he got into his chair that he didn't sound as coarse as he had earlier. He believes that whatever is staying in the bottom of his lungs is what is causing all of his problems. He did say that he is too medically fragile to attempt a bronchoscopy. Because of the blood clot he has under his right arm, he would like to do a scan this afternoon to make sure there aren't any clots in his lungs, or the clot under his arm hasn't migrated. He's leaving it up to his nurse to make the call if he is stable enough to go down to the scanner. They have already done a chest x-ray.

At about 11, his blood pressure plummeted again. His oxygen also started dropping. Yet, Bill said he did not feel dizzy or anything. It had just done that when Dr. Wozniak came in. Lizzy was going to check with Dr. Yaranov to see about adding an extra Midodrine. That is a drug that raises blood pressure. He's been taking it twice a day to keep his blood pressure above 100 and they are now thinking that he needs one about mid-day to keep him evened out. I don't know if it was okayed or not, she was talking to him when I went to get some lunch and it took quite awhile today. The server was more interested in talking to everyone she saw than actually filling the orders. But, it was a really good steak pasta alfredo and there was enough of it for me to eat again tonight. And of course Bill couldn't remember if she brought him any pills or not.

He's just gotten a lovely bath and shave and his oxygen stayed good the entire time. He's probably ready for a nap and most likely, if they are going to do the scan, they'll come to take him just as he falls asleep.

He also didn't eat a lot of lunch so they'll want to do a feeding sometime this afternoon. But, if they are going to do that test they may need to wait. I think they have to use a diagnostic IV so that anything different shows up.

Hopefully, if they can do the test, I'll have some results before I leave tonight. If so, you'll get another update tonight or in the morning. Or, since using my phone as a hotspot instead of trying to use the hospital wifi is working quite well, I just bring my laptop daily again.
