The bronch has finally been done. We don't have any results yet, but NO VENT! Hopefully they were able to get him cleaned out some. They did it at bedside instead of taking him to the bronch lab. Dr. Wright was pretty confident that there wouldn't be any problems.

It was first scheduled for 10:30, but there was an emergency in ICU and that tied up Dr. Wright. So, it didn't get done until between 12:30 and 1. Emily and I went to get lunch when they got him ready for the procedure. But, the morning was not a complete bust.

His hematocrit was low this morning, so they had to give him a pint of blood. We don't know where he's losing it as he hasn't had any blood in his stools and he hasn't coughed any blood, or vomited blood. So, they requested a GI consult and the nurse came by this morning. The dr. who is on call for the hospital this week is Bill's GI doctor, so she can check his colonoscopy results. She said after the bronch, they may do an endoscopy to look and see what is what. Bill just said that maybe he quit making blood, and that does happen, but who knows. Dr. Edwards also said he was a little "dry", meaning there was not enough fluid in his veins, even though all he wants to do is drink. So they hung a big bag of fluids to run over 10 hours. Dr. Edwards said that even if Bill had to go on the vent, going backwards was sometimes needed to go forward.

Dr. Threlkeld said he was just going to wait to see what the bronch showed, but he was still following. When he heard that Dr. Wright was doing the bronch he said that he lived next door to him during college and it we wanted to know anything, just ask him.

His nurse just came in and gave him a couple of sips of water and he did fine swallowing them, so she brought him some applesauce and ice cream. He's eating the applesauce right now and doing fine. She was also changing his diet from NPO to his regular diet. I'm just glad to see him eating somethingI

She did say that they got a bunch of junk out and sent off lots of cultures. They did have to give him a little extra sedation because he got a little fiesty. I told her he does go into panic mode, but she said his sats stayed up.

I don't know how long we will stay today. We're also waiting for some friends of Emily's who are coming to Memphis to call. We still need the advanced directive witnessed and the nurses or employees can't witness his signature. But, he had already signed the wallet card, which didn't need witnessed, so I showed the palliative care nurse that signature and she if something happened today, and she could tell that he had made his choices, it would be honored.

He has finished his applesauce and is now moving along to ice cream. I'm pleased enough to cry! But, I won't, I did enough of that yesterday!

I may not update again until tomorrow. It depends on what else may happen before we leave. So, just keep checking back!
