So far this has not been a good day! When I got here his numbers all looked good. He said he was miserable though and that his chest hurt. He was pretty gurgly and Stacy suctioned him and got some junk out, but he still sounded bad. Dr. El Hadad came by and said he would be back to assess him, but while he was in the room, his sats dropped steadily to 70 and his tubing was full of gunk. So, he had respiratory, who was also in the room, put him on the vent and ordered a stat bronch. They were administering the medications to knock him out before I even left the room.
They got a bunch of stuff out again and it looked like Mike had a huge amount in a specimen jar to send to the lab. What was in his tubing looked like the same thick yellow/tan stuff as before.
He's still on the vent and Stacy told me they were going to slowly wean him off, depending how he was doing. She's already lowered his oxygen concentration. He's still asleep, but he's frowning now, so he may be ready to wake up. That's what he did yesterday. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't want to leave him on the vent to let his lungs and body rest some for today. But, we just have to wait and see.
His potassium has been steadily climbing and they gave him something to counteract that and I think flush some of it from his system. Unfortunately, it is like a laxative and he is already having diarrhea from the tube feeds. But, Stacy said they would stay on top of keeping him clean and I know between her and Eunice, he'll be well taken care of. Stacy is also checking with dietary to see if something with his formula can/should be changed.
That's how our morning has gone. It was a peaceful drive in, with a beautiful sunrise...until I changed direction and the sun was at the point that it was directly in my eyes and sunglasses and the visor were very little help. But, with Sirius XM playing all traditional hymns, God and I had church on the drive.
I'll update again this afternoon after he recovers a little more.
